Spring Brings Renovations for CCHS
Upon returning from Spring Break CCHS students were greeted with a dramatic change, as they noticed the new gray flooring on the first floor. In addition to the floors, new doors were also installed throughout the building. The most notable change in the landscape is the new fence that runs along the perimeter of the school.
Students probably noticed the new fencing along the main entrance of Charlotte Catholic as they drove into the school, but that is not the only place to find new fencing. A new chain link fence was also installed on the sides and the back of the school.
Mr. Telford says that the main use of the fence is “for protection, and also to stop the people cutting through our property.” Random pedestrians frequently cross campus as a shortcut to places like the Waterford Apartments, Chipotle, or Carmel Commons. Principal Telford hopes the installation of the new fences will force people to go around Charlotte Catholic’s campus, not through it. The chain link fence also serves as a barrier between the school and the outside area and makes it impossible to enter Charlotte Catholic from anywhere except the designated entrance.
To the dismay of students, the fence also blocks the foot path to the nearby Chipotle, which is a popular eatery and hangout spot for students after school. With the new fence came the rumor Chipotle demanded Charlotte Catholic to construct a fence blocking the connection to the two places. This rumor is false. Confirmed by Mr. Telford, the fence was not constructed at Chipotle’s request or as a way to discourage students from entering the restaurant. To get to Chipotle, students will walk down to the street and take the sidewalk.
The fences especially will play a major role in keeping the unwanted foot traffic to a minimum, and ensuring the safety of the school. The new floor adds a clean touch to the downstairs area of the main building, and the doors also help to keep the school looking renewed. With the inside looking nicer and the outside safe and secure, the new installations make CCHS a better place.
