New Year, New Courses

As the end of the school year approaches, so does the course selection period for the 2025-26 school year. For rising sophomores, the opportunity to take multiple honors classes is now available, along with plenty of new elective opportunities. Rising juniors will have the chance to register for AP classes.

The conclusion of freshman year means a new year filled with lots of opportunities for personal and academic growth. For several students, sophomore year means enjoying new freedoms, such as taking drivers tests and getting a license. Current freshman Angelina Maino is excited for this next step. “I so excited to have more freedom and take more challenging classes next year,” she said. “I chose to take all honors classes, so I feel like I will have more work and a bigger challenge than freshman year.” She agrees that choosing courses that are challenging but not too overwhelming is very important for course selection.

Junior year may seem intimidating for many in the class of 2027. Most high school students feel that junior year is the most difficult of their high school career. Junior year, however, is a great opportunity for students to try new things and go outside of their comfort zone. New activities and AP classes are highlights of junior year. “I look forward to trying new classes,” said sophomore Sydney Toeben. “I plan on taking AP English and APUSH which will probably be hard, but I am excited.” Along with higher level core classes, junior year offers a broader variety of electives. “I am most excited about taking Honors Chorus with my friends,” said Sydney. Junior students also have the option to take 5.0 level classes as electives as well as join honors societies.

Rising seniors were tasked with planning schedules that will be beneficial to their college admissions but are also not too strenuous for their last year of high school. “I’m really excited for senior year because I’m ready to graduate,” said Junior Franck Tassy. Several courses offered to rising seniors are interesting and exciting to learn about. Franck is especially excited to take Honors Economics. “I want to learn more about the economy. I’m looking forward to that class the most” he said.

With AP and final exams approaching and the 2024-25 school year winding down, planning for the following year is an exciting task for students.
