Making Mass the Main Event

At Charlotte Catholic, faith is the school’s main focus. Starting at the beginning of the 2024-2025 school year, there has been mass every Wednesday. In order to show reverence to God, CCHS will hold daily all-school Masses starting next year.

Mass gives each student an opportunity to reflect on their faith, allowing them to grow in their relationships with God. Monday through Friday, students will come together in the gym to participate. Due to this new addition, students will be required to wear their mass uniform each day.

Since weekly Mass has just recently started, Mass everyday will be a big adjustment. Sophomore Brynley Wylde says she looks forward to this because it will help her connect more with God. She encourages students to be open to the new change and to use it as a way to strengthen their individual relationship with God.

While students are excited about daily mass, a large percentage are concerned about the shortened classes. Sophomore Megan Shea fears that “this will harm [her] education and time to learn in the classroom.” In response to these worries, the office staff has met with teachers regarding shortening lesson plans and assessments.

Starting in the 2025-2026 school year, each day will follow the Mass schedule, with students heading down to Mass after B period. Sophomore Afton Williams voiced her concerns that this new schedule will shorten break. Afton uses break as a time to catch up with friends and study for any tests and quizzes she might have later in the day. The administration has reassured students  that Mass will not cut into break, giving students their regular 21 minutes of relaxation.

Overall, 72 percent of students are enthusiastic about this new change. The other 28 percent of the student population will soon love it as well, making this change one of the best ever at Charlotte Catholic. While making sure that students' academic lives are not harmed, CCHS makes sure to focus on the most important thing: the Catholic faith.
