Rules of the Road
The 2024-25 school year is bringing changes to Charlotte Catholic– two of the most important are the new parking deck rules.. Most student drivers are curious as to why there are new rules. Fortunately, the school administration provides answers for these student concerns.
“First and foremost, we want people to drive safely and slowly through campus. That to me is of the utmost importance” Sarah Danser, the Dean of Students said. “We don’t want anybody getting hit or in an accident.”
One of the most noticeable changes that Catholic drivers observe is the no tolerance policy for driving over the cones between A deck and B deck. This was the most commonly broken rule in previous years, according to Mrs. Danser.
“What we put into place that is now a policy in the handbook is if you drive over the cone there is a fine the first time. The second time there is a fine and you can lose your parking spot for the year.” As well as being a safety concern, administration stresses the importance of respecting school property. The staff intends to emphasize this fact to all drivers before they purchase a spot in the parking lot.
“Mr. Belk works really hard to keep everything in good shape and working order, and it's just a disregard and disrespect for school property when students do that. That’s not how we want our students to be” said Mrs. Danser.
Another frequent issue is students parking in the wrong spots. This is a major concern to the school staff for security reasons. To prevent this problem, all students are required to have a parking pass hanging on the rearview mirror of the car. “We want to make sure everyone comes in and parks in their own spot. We need everyone to park in their spots for safety purposes and security purposes” said Mrs. Danser.
Faculty hopes that these new rules will facilitate deck traffic, prevent parking deck accidents, and help protect student drivers. If all drivers follow the rules, the staff is optimistic that difficulties will be eliminated and all members of the community will be much safer.
