Danser Deemed Dean
On December 7th 2023, the Thursday before midterms, students received a letter that informed them Mr. Chris Owens, Dean of Students, would be leaving Charlotte Catholic. In light of his departure, his former assistant, Mrs. Sarah Danser, has filled in the role as Interim Dean of Students.
Mrs. Danser has been a member of the CCHS community for eight years, and has been working for the school for two years. She is also Past President of the CCHS Parent Teacher Organization and has a son currently going through his freshman year at CCHS.
When interviewed, Mrs. Danser said she believed she was the first person the administration asked to fill the position. Mrs. Danser does not know how long she will be acting dean after this year. The school has not yet begun a search for a new candidate. If no replacement is found, Mrs. Danser could be made the permanent dean of students.
The dean’s responsibility is to act as a bridge between students and faculty; however, Mrs Danser emphasized she is there to help enforce the rules and work with administration to ensure we have a peaceful community. Mrs. Danser also said that although she is currently a temporary dean, she has still been given all the responsibilities and authority that a permanent dean would have.
Some students asked if this appointment will come with any changes, specifically in the school’s phone policy. Mrs. Danser stated, “the change in policy at the beginning of this year was more of a team-effort decision” and comes from a higher level than the dean alone has the power to change. Mrs. Danser also said that as of right now, no other policy changes seem necessary, so students do not have to worry about rule changes halfway through the year.
Mrs. Danser expressed excitement about being able to help students and tackle school problems as part of a team effort. Mrs. Danser believes teamwork and self-advocating are the two most important elements of the CCHS community and looks forward to being able to help foster those traits among students.
