Cougars’ Club Day Creates Chaos
Students from all grades lined the halls to advertise their clubs to potential members for Charlotte Catholic’s long standing tradition, Club Day. The event provides a brilliant opportunity for students to express themselves through their interests and seek like minded individuals.
The co-president of the Global Citizens Club, senior Kennedy Dawson, said she was “inspired by the message of the club” and is “hoping to focus on service at CCHS in a more global perspective.” Kennedy explained that she intends to expand opportunities for service for the members of the Global Citizens club, increasing their influence beyond the school community. She also mentioned that the theme of the Global Citizens Club this year would be sustainability.
When asked about upcoming projects for new members, she plans to address issues of overconsumption and waste, especially as the holidays draw closer. Additionally, as many seniors reach voting age, Kennedy and co-president Angela Ortiz-Green intend to draw attention to the importance of voting and to encourage new voters to educate themselves. They will also emphasize the importance of participating in not only the presidential election but local elections as well.
Outside of her work for Global Citizens Club, Kennedy also started the Catholic Beautification Club, alongside Vice President Juliette Kaupp and Secretary Reese Dawson. The mission of the Beautification Club is to “enhance the school through service projects and partnerships with other clubs.” The club intends to start small, with simple projects like adding more clocks around the school and cleaning up the campus, with the intention of “making CCHS more welcoming.” Members of the Catholic Beautification Club have much to look forward to, as Kennedy intends to use the club to lighten the load on teachers and the student council by forming committees for Homecoming and decorating for holidays. When asked about her reason for starting the club, Kennedy responded; “I like being able to see results, being able to hear how service impacts others.”
The hordes of chattering students moving from table to table give Club Day a frantic atmosphere. With an overwhelming 71 clubs to choose from, the 30 minute window provided for signing up just doesn't seem like enough time. Students who didn't manage to find the clubs they were looking for are encouraged to contact Mrs. Nobers at campus ministry to find their perfect fit.
