SOTM: Dom Basrawala
Dom Basrawala, a sophomore known for his sheer size, is well-known for being an accomplished dual-sport varsity athlete on Charlotte Catholic’s football and wrestling teams. Standing at 6’4, Dom made both varsity teams with ease.
Dom’s favorite sport, football, has been a part of his life since 4th grade. From playing for the little leagues, to Holy Trinity, to starting as sophomore on Charlotte Catholic’s varsity football team, he has impressed fans at every level. His work ethic and ability to perform in high-stress situations are the largest components of his athletic success.
Dom is known for pushing himself and holding himself accountable. He recounts that he “practices every day,” and humbly claims that “practicing consistently is one way to improve your game.” Dom’s work ethic will take him far, and he wants to play college football. His hard work has already started to pay off, as he recently received an offer from D1 Georgia Southern University.
Although Dom has a career in football, he also is known for his advanced skill in wrestling. Dom picked up wrestling in 7th grade and continues to excel. His record for the 2024 season is 24-4. He was the only Charlotte Catholic wrestler to go to states during the 2024 season, placing 12th. Dom claimed it “was a hard fight” but “super enjoyable.” He loves facing challenging opponents and often emerges victorious. He doesn't frequently practice, but he enjoys wrestling with the Catholic team.
Dom not only is a competitive dual-sport athlete but also focuses on his top priority: school. He claims the key to being a successful student athlete is to “allocate time over the weekends to get big things out of the way,” and to “write down a new to-do list everyday.” An honors student, he maintains excellent grades while also juggling his sports.
Dom hopes to continue to play football in college, but his accomplishments in wrestling predict a future in it as well. With his attitude, work ethic, and dedication, the chances of Dom excelling in either of his respective sports are high.
