Heading into third quarter, CCHS senior athletes continue to commit to various colleges to study and compete in their respective sports. Eight seniors signed letters of intent to play their sport at the collegiate level on Winter Signing Day.
In the Fine Arts Center lobby, students from all grades gathered around to watch the event. Each athlete had a table adorned with their college’s logo and treats. The signees and their families proudly sported merch from each of their future colleges.
Surrounded by friends and family, the commits prepared to take the next step in their post-high school careers. Coach Christmas, Catholic’s athletic director, offered the seniors words of encouragement and praise. He emphasized the school community will be cheering them on in college and that “Charlotte Catholic is proud of you guys.”
Following the inspirational speech, the athletes signed their official letters of intent, prompting spirited applause from families, friends, and peers alike.
One of the proud signees, Lauren Prociou, expressed her excitement to play field hockey at Denison University. Lauren is glad she gets the opportunity to continue playing the sport she loves at an even more competitive level. On Winter Signing Day, she especially “loved seeing all [her] friends, family, teammates and school supporting [her] hard work to make the whole day special.”
There were eight signees at Winter Signing Day, as follows:
Landon Herzberg - Football - Elon University
Matthew Leonard - Football - Middlebury College
Jackson Gagnon - Football - Furman University
Brody Roderick - Baseball - Southern Wesleyan University
Matthew Sermeno - Baseball - Georgian Court University
Logan Hill - Track and Field - University of South Carolina
Gabe McNeil - Powerlifting - Midland University
Lauren Proicou - Field Hockey - Denison University
CCHS Winter Signing Day was a successful event that the signees will never forget. The Charlotte Catholic community wishes the best of luck for all of these seniors in college athletics and commends them for their great accomplishment.
