Though school has just begun, field hockey has been preparing for its promising season since the summer. Incoming freshmen look forward to meeting new people, while returners hope for another State victory.
During the field hockey season, the girls learn discipline and perseverance, all while making friendships that will last a lifetime. They learn good time management and sportsmanship that will serve them well in their athletic careers and throughout their lives.
Over the summer, prospective players attended optional morning practices in June and July, with actual practice starting in August. The teams also participated in optional lifts from 9 to 10am over the summer. These workouts allow the girls to get to know one another and work on game plays during scrimmage.
The field hockey program includes varsity and junior varsity teams, with varsity consisting of 22 players plus three managers. The varsity team captains this year are seniors Meg Tebben, Avery Painter, and Caroline Winters and junior Evi Hoefling. With Coach Baker and Coach Hogan and the great student leaders, the team stands a hopeful shot at winning the State Championship.

In season, they have two hour practices four to five times a week and games once or twice a week. Since the field has eleven players on each side during a game, the varsity team is the perfect size for scrimmages. During practices, the team runs through drills such as corners and passing exercises.
In 2024, the varsity team made it to the state finals. With a record of 18-4, the girls hope to do it again this season, but advance further. With All-State and All-Conference junior goalkeeper Madison Schwartz guarding their goal, the team feels confident in their chances of victory. Madison believes the team this year has tons of potential, and she loves the positive energy that the girls bring.
Junior Sarah Haskell loves field hockey, as she has been playing since 6th grade. Sarah was pulled up to varsity her freshman year, and she has become close with all the girls. She says that every year is special, and when the seniors leave, it is always a hard goodbye.
Since it is a team sport, the girls are always supportive of each other, encouraging one another during tough practices and games. Through teamwork and determination, the varsity team shares a common goal: to win states.
