Mr. Hoilett Becomes New Dean of Students
From technology supervisor to Dean of Students, Mr. Gary Hoilett scored a promotion. Mr. Hoilett is pleased with his new position and has high hopes to make this school year the best he possibly can for students and administration.
Dean of Students is one of the most challenging administrative positions. The Dean must act as a bridge between the students and the administration while keeping the students in line. After prayerful contemplation, Mr. Hoilett feels “more than ready to take on the responsibilities,” citing his past experiences as a coach and dad as having prepared him to take on this challenging role. He has also worked at the school for a while and believes he can “have a positive impact on not only the school, but the students.”
The Dean of Students is in charge of enforcing punishments for students who have run afoul of school policies. Mr. Hoilett, however, does not like the word “punishment.” He sees his role “first and foremost as helping the students be the best they can be… and the teachers!” He acknowledges that most students might not always agree with all of the rules they have to follow, but “rules are rules,” and he states that “it, realistically, is helping you for the real world.”
Mr. Hoilett addressed the new uniform rules and admits “it will be the hardest part of [his] job.” He hopes that students will improve on tucking in their shirts, checking their skirt lengths, and wearing the correct mass attire. He mentioned supervising the student body with tough love, but he hopes all students know he wants them to succeed.
Mr. Hoilett said he is grateful for a strong start to the school year and looks forward to “being somebody who is helpful in making a positive impact in students' lives.”
