Homerooms Hoop to Victory
The Faculty vs Student Basketball Game is one of Charlotte Catholic’s popular traditions. Homerooms participated in a basketball tournament which started in January. Teams met in the gym every day at break where students gathered to watch their peers face off. Three students from each homeroom competed in the tournament against other homerooms.
The winning senior homeroom faced off against the faculty in a basketball game to celebrate the end of Catholic Schools Week. Mr. Kalbaugh’s homeroom was the winner of the tournament. They did not have enough players to compete, so they recruited players from Senorá Davas’ homeroom to have enough subs.
Prior to the game the seniors of the winning homeroom shared their opinions and thoughts. Gabe Grippo said, “The score will be a lot to a little and we will beat them.” Avery Graham admitted: “I’m nervous for the athletic teachers.” Molly Haskell was amped up for the game; she exclaimed, “I’m going to take some granny shots!”
Though the faculty had Superintendent Dr. Monroe, Principal Telford, Assistant Principal Conrad, and Mr. Mansour, the students came away with the victory with a final score of 46-45.
Carter Edwards and Joey Hall both put up a majority of the team’s points, swishing baskets from all over the court.
Aside from the seniors’ game, each grade level had its own victorious homeroom. For the freshmen, Mrs. Lynch’s were the champions. As for the sophomores, Mr. Pham’s homeroom came out with the win. The junior homeroom that won was Dr. El Fahsi. Each winning team earned a homeroom breakfast.
This basketball tournament is an exciting ending to a successful Catholic Schools Week.
