Cougars Kick-off Spirit Week

Charlotte Catholic High School kicked off its annual Homecoming spirit week on October 1, 2024. This event brought excitement and school spirit to the CCHS community. Students reported their enjoyment of the variety of themes, by dressing up in different costumes and showing support for the school.

Monday’s themes were Character Day and Rhyme Without Reason. These themes have been popular for the past few years, and students loved seeing the creative outfits of their peers. Junior Isabella Lugg felt that Rhyme Without Reason was the highlight of spirit week because “it was fun to see everyone’s creative costumes.” A few of the ideas students came up with included “DJ and PJ”, “Kim K and NBA”, and “Hot Mess and Princess.”

Perhaps the biggest hit of spirit week was Tuesday’s theme: Barbecue Dads vs. Soccer Moms. In general, students felt this theme was the most memorable. Junior Mackenzie Moran enjoyed this theme the most, saying that she “likes seeing girls dressed as guys, especially the ones that wore long shorts.” Junior Sophie Carinci also was entertained by the creative outfits. “It was funny to see everyone’s outfits,” she said.

Thursday was Generations Day, in which each class was assigned a different age group to dress up as. Freshmen dressed as little kids, sophomores as teenagers, juniors as parents, and seniors as grandparents. Junior Dani Lupinski “had fun dressing as a parent the most. [She] liked bringing her American Girl doll to school as her ‘kid’ for the day.” Students really enjoyed bringing accessories on this day, and many seniors went all out by wearing granny wigs and using walkers and canes.

On Friday the school capped off spirit week by dressing in CCHS colors. Freshmen wore black, sophomores wore white, juniors wore blue, and seniors wore red. Junior Kate Lindner felt this day had the best theme of the week. “I liked how everyone went all out, like some people had red masks and someone dyed themself blue. That was really cool.” Colors Day tied everything together by displaying school spirit and Cougar Pride.

The majority of the students felt that spirit week was a huge hit. This year's creative themes and increased participation made the week especially enjoyable.
