Charlotte Catholic is renovating its field for the upcoming 2025-2026 school year. After numerous complaints about the condition of the field from athletes who compete in a multitude of sports, the decision has been made to implement new grass. This is not the biggest change, however, because, taking inspiration from the famous Boise State field, this new field will be baby blue to match Charlotte Catholic's colors.
This will be a huge change for the community of Charlotte Catholic. With a field that is not only in better shape but also stands out, the stadium will become an icon known throughout North Carolina.
The goal of the change is to make Keffler Stadium a place where all teams of North Carolina desire to play. This would bring a lot of popularity to Charlotte Catholic and make its teams unique. With this more teams would be willing to play in the stadium. UNC Chapel Hill has already inked a deal to play one game annually on this new field which will match their colors as well.
Athletic director Kevin Christmas came up with the idea and was the one who pushed for the new field. With the help of Marty Chuttey, he convinced the Charlotte Catholic community to approve of this change.
The coaching staff and players are very excited about this change, and the football team captain commented, “We can’t wait to play on the new field. Playing on fresh grass is already one of the best things to do as a football player, and the fact that it is going to be blue makes it so much better.”
The field is not only used for football but it is used by lots of other sports such as field hockey, lacrosse, and rugby. This will make Catholic’s stadium not only a football icon but a special arena for all sports to play in.
With the new color of the field, CCHS announced that they will also be releasing a new jersey to match the field: baby blue color rush. All teams who use the field will wear it during home games. When asked about problems with blending into the field Mr. Christmas said “Although it may be hard for the fans to see, it will also be hard for the opposing team to see us.”
The field will be ready to go at the start of next year’s football season. Jack Hughes has agreed to let Catholic make their baseball field blue as well in the future. Following this theme, head coach of varsity basketball Michael King is fighting for a new baby blue court for the gym.
