On December 20, 2024, SZA released her deluxe album titled SOS Deluxe: LANA.
LANA is the reissue of her 2022 studio album SOS, featuring 15 new tracks. This album was highly anticipated by several fans for over a year, as SZA has teased LANA’s release since late 2023. The album exceeded the expectations of countless fans and amped up excitement for SZA’s upcoming Grand National U.S. Tour with Kendrick Lamar.
Junior Mackenzie Moran expressed that she was “very excited for SZA’s album to release” and that it “did not disappoint.” She enjoyed that SZA’s songs from her previous album, SOS, were re-released on LANA, rather than LANA being an entirely new album. Mackenzie only “wished that there were more features from other artists,” as SZA’s “30 for 30” with Kendrick Lamar is the artists’ seventh collaboration.
Mackenzie was pleased with most tracks on the album. She especially enjoyed the songs “Another Life,” “Crybaby,” and “BMF,” which have gone viral on social media and are some of the most enjoyable for SZA fans.
In “Another Life,” SZA reflects on her past relationship and how it could have worked out in a different universe. The song is a nostalgic and yearning ballad in which the artist reminisces on her choices in her previous romance. The song has amassed 30 million streams on Spotify so far, averaging 611,039 streams daily.
SZA’s most-streamed song off of her new album thus far, “BMF”, is an upbeat and vibrant track. Unlike many of the deeper and emotional songs on the album, “BMF” has a fast and catchy melody. The song is a sample of “The Girl from Ipanema” by Brazilian musician Antônio Carlos Jobim. Millions of fans were fond of the song, as it has been played over 76 million times on Spotify since its release on December 20, 2024.
Another fan-favorite song, “Crybaby,” is a deeply introspective tune in which SZA reflects on how we can be the source of our own downfall. This powerful and emotional track has garnered 27 million streams since its release.
Much like other SZA fans, Mackenzie “really hopes that [she] can see SZA when she comes to Charlotte.” The artists will perform on May 3rd, 2025 at Bank of America Stadium.
