Suki Slays the South Charlotte Stage
Singer-songwriter Suki Waterhouse is not yet a household name, but she is well on the path to becoming one. After an electric performance at the brand new Ballantyne Amphitheater, on Friday, October 6th, fans of the British “it-girl” are enchanted by the down to earth authenticity that Suki brings to every performance.
The concert kicked off with Danielle Durack and Carol Ades presenting short, mellow sets to warm up the crowd for the main act. As the clock struck nine, Suki emerged in a haze of purple smoke, a dazzling rhinestone jumpsuit, eye-catching white boots, and a white leather jacket.
Alongside her band, she performed a comprehensive setlist, featuring some of her most popular songs. She also played a rendition of her song “Brutally,” which transitioned into a medley of Mazzy Star’s “Fade into You” and then Taylor Swift’s “Lover.” Fans were blown away by her mash-up of the three songs. Her ability to capture the hazy, hypnotic vocals of Hope Sandoval and the crisp enunciation of Taylor Swift left the audience reeling.
Another highlight of the evening was when she played the unreleased single “O.D.” which sent fans scrambling for their phones to record the performance. To end the night, Suki sang “Good Looking,” the song that propelled her into the spotlight. She left the audience awestruck as she danced her way off stage.
A great performer deserves a great venue and The Amp did not disappoint. What used to be a sleepy golf course behind the Ballantyne Resort has been transformed into an amphitheater in the heart of South Charlotte—it will give The Music Factory some competition.
The audience’s proximity to the stage allows for a more immersive concert experience, which means no more zooming-in for a blurry photo of your favorite band. Even the lawn seating is inclusive, leaving no spectator out of the event. The accessibility of the Ballantyne Amp is another positive aspect of the newest Charlotte venue, with safe and readily available parking, well lit sidewalks, a patio and food trucks available.
Suki engaged with fans throughout the show, expressed her gratitude for the audience’s dedication, and was surprised that they even knew the lyrics to her songs. The venue was easy to get to, the opening acts were entertaining, the atmosphere was warm and welcoming. Suki Waterhouse puts on a brilliant show.
