Each year, students look forward to homecoming by participating in Spirit Week. Throughout the week, students and some teachers dress up each day according to a specific theme. At the end of the week, students attend a pep rally that builds excitement for their upcoming weekend.
On Monday students began the week in high spirits with Twin Day, where students could join with friends and develop matching costumes for the day. Junior Kacey Conley said juniors Olivia Canon and Virginia Gaston, who dressed as the Shining Twins, had the best matching costumes. Though a number of great costumes were in evidence, the overall winners for this day were seniors Kate McClenehan and Gabby Roberts, who dressed as Pete Davidson and Timothy Chalamet from the Saturday Night Live skit.
On Tuesday, all generations were welcome at school. With freshmen dressing as kids, sophomores as teens, juniors as adults, and seniors as elders, funny costumes filled the school. Seniors Beau Rodrick and Taylor Palmere and juniors Megan Shea and Rex Bumgarner won for generation day. Megan said, “I snuck into my mom’s closet early in the morning and took one of her most mom-like dresses” in order to accomplish her vision for the costume.
Since there was no Mass on Wednesday, students got to dress up in a costume that started with the first letter of their name. For example, sophomore Addison Morgan came to school decked out in American-themed clothes and accessories. This day was not only Addison’s favorite theme of the whole week but also junior MK Phillips. MK dressed as Megamind, wearing a onesie, a cape, and blue facepaint. Understandably, MK won best costume for the day along with junior Alicia Riga, who dressed as America.

Thursday had a classic theme, which was Adam Sandler day. Students who chose to participate came to school in baggy clothes, looking like they just rolled out of bed. The winners chosen for this day were Kenneth Anderson, Courtney Koesel, and Mallory Haehnlein. Kenneth replicated an outfit from Happy Gilmore, and Courtney and Mallory dressed the same as Adam Sandler in the movie The Waterboy.
On the last day of Spirit Week, each grade represented their class by wearing a specific color. Freshmen wore white, sophomores wore black, juniors wore red, and seniors wore blue. The most spirited person from each class was recognized at the pep rally. These included freshman Brady Curtin, sophomore Ned McCormack, junior Brooke Dean, and seniors Gabby Zaremba and Miller McMillan.
While Spirit Week and daily dress downs came to an end, the Friday fun was far from over. Students got out of class at around 1:30 and headed to the gym to watch the school participate in fun activities. The pep rally included a competitive game of basketball musical chairs, announcements of the costume winners, a celebration of the Homecoming Court nominees, the powder puff dance, and performances from both the dance and cheer team. Senior Noah Cellini said his favorite part was “seeing all the classes cheer and have school spirit, showing the school’s unity.”
Spirit Week is one of the most exciting and fun weeks in the whole school year and this year was no different. After the great week at school, the majority of students brought an equal amount of joy into their weekend by celebrating the homecoming dance with their friends.
