Students Prepare to Embark on Thanksgiving Vacays
In the midst of a demanding first semester, Charlotte Catholic students are looking forward to the reprieve offered by the week-long Thanksgiving break. Some students plan to take advantage of their freedom by setting off on exciting vacations.
Sophomore Virginia Gaston will venture to tropical St. Lucia for Thanksgiving. This will be Virginia’s first time on the Caribbean island. Her parents visited two years ago and enjoyed it so much that they decided to bring the whole family. During their stay, the Gastons plan to explore the Pitons, two volcanic plugs unique to St. Lucia. Though they won't be celebrating the holiday at home, for Virginia’s family “Thanksgiving isn't as focused on the typical traditions or feasts” but rather spending time together. Virginia mentioned the importance of family time and remarked that since both her brothers are in college “it is important to spend the holiday all together.” “Once my brothers have their own families, we might not be able to gather together every year,” she said.
Senior Mikaela Maloney is excited to fly to Paris for the week. She will be visiting France for the second time, having last visited when she was 11. Mikaela will be going with her extended family from Chicago and plans to stay for a week. They plan to “walk around a town that will have lots of little Christmas shops on a street covered with Christmas lights” and sample French holiday treats. Mikaela will arrive back in Charlotte the day before Thanksgiving to spend the holiday with family at home. She added that if her family had stayed in Paris they “would not have celebrated Thanksgiving” which would have been a real disappointment, as Mikaela’s family cooks a traditional stuffed turkey every year which is her favorite thanksgiving food.
Wherever students spend their Thanksgiving, they are sure to enjoy the break from classes and extracurricular activities to spend time with family and friends.
