Students Dance the Night Away at Prom

The highly anticipated Charlotte Catholic Junior and Senior Prom took place from 9 to 11 p.m. on Saturday, April 27th in the Fine Arts Center. The theme of the night was The Great Gatsby, celebrating the glamor of the Roaring 20s. Students were not required to dress to the theme. However, several chaperones and administrators participated, donning their flapper dresses. The Fine Arts Center was adorned with art deco wall decorations and twinkling overhead lights, transforming the usually cold, academic lobby and lending a festive glow for the celebration.

The prom committee, chaired by Mrs. Jones and Mrs. Hogg, planned the event with assistance from Mr. Riter and Mr. Belk. As for activities, the black box theater was transformed once again into a casino floor, after last year’s juniors raved about the Casino Night themed prom. There was also a raffle for various high-end prizes, such as AirPods, iPads, and JBL speakers. Students were also given a photo opportunity by the back stairs of the building.

Towards the end of the night, the prom court nominees were called to the stairs and presented. The nominees for prom court included seniors Gracynn Gough, Summer Basrawala, Abbie Driscoll, Natalie Dominguez, Laura Johnson, Sean Alexander, Frank Brewer, Matthew Leonard, Will Templeton, and Titus Williams. A hush of anticipation fell over the crowd as the names were read, and cheers erupted as Summer Basrawala and Will Templeton were announced as prom king and queen. Students returned to their friends as the music resumed and the new king and queen posed for their picture with Mr. Telford.

Overall, students enjoyed a fun night out with their friends and a break before the chaos of exams and end of the year activities.
