Student Costume Survey
Halloween is prime time for pumpkin carving, haunted houses, and costumes! Whether attending a costume party, trick-or-treating, or passing out candy, most students plan to dress up for the holiday. Costumes range in theme, complexity, and cost, with this year’s most popular costumes including Men in Black, party animals, and pop singers like Sabrina Carpenter, Olivia Rodrigo, and Taylor Swift. While most students plan to purchase a costume, some prefer to make their own, since it is cheaper and allows them to add their personal touch.
Group costumes are popular with students. This year, sophomore Ella Smith will celebrate at a neighborhood Halloween party, where she and her friends plan to dress as Goldilocks and the Three Bears. Similarly, sophomore Patrick Johnson and his classmates will go trick-or-treating as a herd of blow-up dinosaurs. Whether dressing as characters from movies or a package of crayons, going with a group of friends is always more fun.
For senior Audrey Pardue, Halloween is the highlight of the year. She shares, “Even though Halloween has changed since I was a kid, I still enjoy dressing up every year and passing down some of my family’s favorite Halloween traditions to my younger brother.” Her sentiment resonates with other students who feel Halloween brings out their inner child. Even students who do not enjoy dressing up plan to do something simple to share in the holiday fun.
This year, All Saints Day falls on a Friday, and students are excited to extend their Halloween celebrations through the long weekend. Several students are planning multiple costumes. For instance, Audrey organized several events with friends and chose three different costumes: a sailor, a cowgirl, and a Girl Scout.
With plenty of last-minute ideas available online, students still have time to finalize their costumes. Some students will use classic options like ghosts, mummies, and vampires that are easy to assemble with items found in your home. They have found it is not necessary to buy anything in order to have a creative costume. Sometimes, homemade costumes are the best ones.
Regardless of the costumes, one thing is for sure: students are ready to make this Halloween a celebration to remember.
