SOTM: Hartman Heading For the Pros
Most hope one day to be “one of the greats” in their respective sport, and junior men’s golfer Will Hartman, can already say he has accomplished that.
Will Hartman started his golfing career at the age of two. He is now coming up on his 15th season of golf and is ranked top ten nationally according to the American Junior Golf Association. Hartman has a resume full of golf accomplishments and has recently committed to Vanderbilt University.
Aside from his recent commitment, Hartman continues to compete in national tournaments. Recently, Hartman successfully defended his title at the Bobby Chapman Invitational,
one of the premier junior golf tournaments in the nation. Hartman also participated in the Junior Ryder Cup, where he represented the United States in Rome. The competition is against European and American golfers aged 18 and under, and consisted of 12 of the country’s top junior golfers.
Hartman still keeps up with his top priority: school, despite his dedication to golf. He claims the key to being a productive student athlete is communication. He admits he sometimes struggles, but “letting teachers know beforehand of absences is definitely an important factor.” He admits that his honest and timely communication saves him from trouble. Hartman plays and practices 15 hours weekly. Succeeding on and off the course is important to our student of the month.
Hartman is a humble, experienced golfer with a multitude of accomplishments. He looks forward to his college experience at Vanderbilt because he loves the golf coach and believes the coach will help him improve his abilities. He also notes Vanderbilt’s “really good track record of being able to produce college golfers under the PGA tour.” Hartman hopes to one day be a professional golfer. With the attitude, work ethic, and dedication Will possesses, his chances of going pro are high.
