With the recent resignation of a couple of Charlotte Catholic faculty members, the administration has turned to two new long-term substitutes to fill the gap. Mr. Anthony Turnbow teaches both Advanced Biology at the freshman level and Oceanography. Mr. Peter Grant teaches Oceanography and Forensics. Both of the new substitutes present impressive credentials.
Mr. Turnbow attended Ardrey Kell High School and graduated in 2016. He completed his undergraduate studies at Winthrop University. He continued his education at Cleveland University of Kansas City where he obtained his chiropractic doctorate.
Mr. Turnbow has not had the opportunity to teach anywhere prior to Charlotte Catholic, though he was a work-study tutor at both Winthrop and Cleveland University. Mr. Turnbow was invited to help find a cure for breast cancer by his professor, Daniel Stovall at Winthrop University. Mr Turnbow was unable to accept this invitation as he received it in his final semester of his senior year, and had already committed to a chiropractic school in Kansas. One interesting fact about Mr. Turnbow is that he was the point guard of the 2016 Ardrey Kell varsity basketball team, which handed Charlotte Catholic’s 2016 state championship team their only loss of the entire season.
Mr. Grant attended Charlotte Catholic and later studied at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte for his collegiate studies. One interesting fact about Mr. Grant is that he recently was employed as a police officer. He has prior experience in teaching at the police academy, but has not taught at the high school level before. As a police officer, Mr. Grant participated in the investigation of a high-stakes murder case in Charlotte, which is fitting for a forensics teacher.
In the future, Mr. Turnbow hopes to open up a chiropractic office while still participating in a teaching career. Mr. Grant hopes to improve his teaching skills, and get to know and be a mentor for students at Charlotte Catholic.
Mr. Turnbow stated that he loves “how interactive the students are, and how they show a great willingness to learn.” Since Mr. Grant is a graduate from Charlotte Catholic, he stated that he loves “the sense of community in coming back to his old school.”
The Charlotte Catholic community warmly welcomes these two new long-term substitutes, and hopes they can return for the long run when they finish out the year strong.
