Charlotte's very own basketball team, the Hornets, made history this past month by winning nine straight games. This was the first time since 1999 that the Hornets have accomplished a win streak of eight games or more.
The Hornets shocked the entire league with this feat, beating high-ranked teams and winning consistently on the road. The once doubted Hornets are now a feared team with a real chance at the play-in game.
The Hornets are led by superstar Lamelo Ball who is averaging about 19 points, five rebounds, and seven assists per game. However, what makes Lamelo incredibly valuable to the team is his ability to create scoring chances for his teammates.

One of these teammates is a rookie from Duke, Kon Knuepple. Kon has been an incredible addition to the team this year, averaging about 19 points a game. Kon has been the fourth fastest player in NBA history to reach 1000 career points since 2020. Additionally, he currently leads the entire league in 3 pointers this season, an absurd accomplishment for a rookie.
The Hornets are not limited to two dominant players. Other key players include Brandon Miller, Mousa Diabate, and Miles Bridges. The Hornets also recently made a trade for former UNC star Coby White, who was averaging 18 points per game with the Chicago Bulls.
The Hornets are currently the ten seed in the east, and if they end the season while maintaining this position, they will have a chance at the playoffs. The top six teams from both sides will automatically be in the playoffs and the other 4 will play each other, (7 vs 10, 8 vs 9) to see who will advance.
The Hornets have not made the playoffs since the 2015-2016 season where they lost in the first round to the Miami Heat. The last time the Hornets won a playoff game was back in the 2002-2003 season against the Brooklyn Nets.
This new Hornets team brings hope to all of its supporters and fans in Charlotte. Not only are the Hornets the best they have been in a long time, but they are also extremely young, with an average age of 24 in the starting line-up. This means that if they stay on their current trend, the Hornets could make multiple playoff appearances in the next few years.
