Now that the 2025-2026 Charlotte Catholic school year is off and running, students are busy learning where their new classes are, meeting with new and old friends, and studying hard to perform well on tests and quizzes. However, despite all the commotion of the start of the year, the new assistant principal, Mr. Steven Knight has already made his presence felt amongst the Charlotte Catholic community.

Mr. Knight is a native of Charleston, South Carolina and attended Presbyterian College,

where he earned a degree in Political Science. He lives with his wife, and they have two children: Zack, who is 33 and works for Calloway Golf, and Laney Joe, who is 25 and currently a middle school teacher.

Mr. Knight has an extensive and diverse background in the workforce, ranging from the Head of Retail for K-Mart to police officer with the Mecklenburg County Police Department. He has even worked in the Pentagon as a US Army Reserve Colonel. Mr. Knight said his roles in leadership and his experience will allow him to help students navigate their way through high school.

Mr. Knight is no stranger to the education system, as he has been around it for nearly 30 years. Before working in the Charlotte Catholic administration, he worked as a baseball coach, social studies teacher, and assistant principal at Rock Hill High School in South Carolina. He even won the Teacher of the Year Award in 2002.

He would like to have a lasting impact on the Charlotte Catholic community. He said, “I reviewed certain safety measures and even put in place new ones, such as an earthquake drill.” He hopes that by instituting these new drills, students can react to these situations more quickly and safely protect themselves and exit the school when necessary.

Mr. Knight particularly emphasized that he wants students to feel that he is a very approachable person. His priority is to remind students to wear their uniforms correctly and follow the fundamental school rules. However, despite acting as an authority figure for the school, he said, “I have had a couple of students give me fist-bumps and even say hello.”

In fact, one of Mr. Knight’s goals for the year is to go to one sporting event for every team at Catholic. He feels that this will help him become acquainted with the entire student population and allow him to create lasting bonds with several of them.

Mr. Knight is fully prepared for the 2025-2026 school year and is adamant that he will always set an example that students will be willing to follow.
