After five years as Vicar of Education, Father Timothy Reid stepped down to return to full-time parish ministry. Fr. Reid helped unify the diocese’s Mecklenburg Area. He spread and strengthened the Catholic faith and oversaw a record enrollment in the Diocese of Charlotte’s 20 schools.

During Fr. Reid's time as Vicar of Education, enrollment grew by over 20%, and the number of students earning academic scholarships increased. He supported projects such as the construction of the MACS Fine Arts Center here at Charlotte Catholic and improvements at Holy Trinity Middle School. Under Fr. Reid, the diocese’s Catholic Schools system was nationally recognized as the Catholic Education Foundation’s “Catholic Organization of the Year.”

Fr. Reid was very committed to his role and will miss specific aspects of his job, such as everyday interactions with students and teachers. Though he will miss being Vicar, Fr. Reid looks forward to spending more time in service at St. Ann’s parish, which is growing rapidly. He has worked at St Ann’s the most out of any church during his 22 years of being a priest. He believes this new role will help him focus on the 1,300 families that are a part of St. Ann’s parish.

St. Ann’s parishioners are especially excited to have Fr. Reid’s full attention to help manage all aspects of the Church’s expansion. In a Catholic News Herald article, Bishop Michael Martin said, “We are grateful for Father Reid’s service through the pandemic and at a time of unprecedented growth in our schools.”

Bishop Martin attempts to put priests in leadership roles where they are specifically qualified and can have the biggest impact. He believes Fr. Reid will do great things in parish ministry.

Bishop Martin applauded Fr. Reid’s management and leadership of the Catholic School mission, which is the work of salvation. In a November 25 letter to the Mecklenburg Area Catholic Schools community, Bishop Martin said, “Father Reid has been a tireless champion of our mission to form disciples of Jesus Christ.”

For Fr. Reid, education will always be a crucial part of his ministry. He looks forward to focusing on education to a great extent at St. Ann Catholic School.
