As Charlotte Catholic begins a new school year, campus ministry brings a whole new outlook on faith. Each member of the community has been called to enter into the life of joy that Christ brings. To do so, Catholic needs leadership. The new Chaplain, Fr. Chinoso, and Coordinator of Campus Ministry Mr. Anthony Quintero are taking the wheel.
Fr. Chinoso was born in Washington D.C. but grew up in Nigeria. As a young man, he recognized holiness as the most important goal and the importance of always striving to grow in virtue. When he was in fourth grade, he felt the call to become a priest. However, he did not know that it was his vocation until one day at the Tutor of Mary Religion Camp, where he was hiking back to his cabin in the woods, he heard “Priesthood, Priesthood, Priesthood.”
Another important part of campus ministry includes Mr. Quintero, a Charlotte native. He draws his deep love for Christ from the example of his parents, Adrian and Aubrey Quintero, who serve as Directors of Worship and Discipleship at St. Gabriel. He recently graduated from Franciscan University of Steubenville, where he earned a Bachelor of Arts in Philosophy with a minor in Evangelization. In his first year at Charlotte Catholic, Mr. Quintero aims to impact the school community as soon as possible by getting involved in daily activities and becoming a mentor to students.

Though their paths differ, both Fr. Chinoso and Mr. Quintero are deeply committed to spiritual growth as a central mission in their lives. Fr. Chinoso revealed that he likes to have holy hour, mental prayer, and Liturgy of the Hour to stay spiritually grounded. Mr. Quintero does so by constantly giving thanks to Christ, going to mass as much as possible, incorporating music, and singing praise.
Throughout the year, one of Campus Ministry’s main objectives is to support students in their faith journeys. Fr. Chinoso said, “I think the sacramental life spaces are there. Mass is being offered every day, which gives students an opportunity to encounter the Eucharist. Those two stand out in terms of one’s relationship and then sacramental reconciliation.” Fr. Chinoso also suggested that all students should take advantage of all opportunities given to them and trust in God’s mercy.
Campus ministry wants students to remember that joy aids the community’s ability to see the glory of God around us, even amidst life’s difficulties. Fr. Chinoso made it clear to always remember that God has not abandoned us. So as the new year starts, the Catholic community could not be more grateful for Campus Ministry and hopes that they will achieve great things.
