Cougar Clubs Create Communities
With Club Day in the past, clubs are beginning to have meetings and officially start off the year. Charlotte Catholic is home to a wide variety of clubs ranging from sports clubs, such as Weight-Lifting club, to service-oriented clubs like the Ronald McDonald Foundation club.
Every year brings new clubs to Catholic and this year the Live Like Bryant Club and the Fantasy Football club are both new additions. While new clubs are emerging, some clubs have been around for years, like the Legacy club.
One new club that has stood out this year is the Fishing club. This club is run by sophomore Hans Lengers who organizes all meetings and events. Hans wants his club to be “open to all, no matter the fishing experience.” He says the club will hold meetings once a month at a local pond to fish and bring people together.
Hans says that “all are welcome,” into his Fishing club. “Even if you are not signed up as a member, you are still welcome to come.” He says he started this club so students could have a club that is something that everyone can enjoy.
The Legacy club, headed by U.S. History teacher Mrs. Zimmer, has been at Charlotte Catholic for years. Mrs Zimmer takes pride in the club and firmly believes that it helps “to bridge the gap between alumni and current students.” This club is for students whose parents attended Catholic.
The Legacy club also provides service opportunities that its members can complete. This is a great way to get students involved with the community while fulfilling CCHS’ service hour requirement. This club has gained more members and its members look forward to the upcoming year.
Another new club to Charlotte Catholic this year is the Live Like Bryant club. This club organizes fundraisers for the Live Like Bryant Foundation, an organization dedicated to providing support to Charlotte youth athletic programs. The club has already held a meeting, and played a large role in one of the biggest fundraisers that Charlotte Catholic has: its annual 3-on-3 basketball tournament.
The tournament raised more than $9,000 for the Live Like Bryant Foundation. The foundation also provides scholarships to prospective and current Charlotte Catholic students, supplies for school, and other basic necessities for less fortunate children who wish to attend high school. Sophomore James Farley, co-president of the club, is looking forward to a fun and productive year. “We have a lot planned and we are hoping that students and their families will all have fun at our events.”
These are just a few of the 95 diverse clubs at Catholic. It appears there is a club out there for every student.
