COTM: CCHS’s Cutest Couples

On Valentine’s Day, millions of people around the world spend time with their friends and family, however couples are the main attraction. This Valentine’s Day, the Catholic Chronicle chose four senior couples we feel embody the true spirit of the holiday.

Most seniors would agree Kate Daniels and Joey Hall are the picture couple of the class of 2024. The pair have been together for four years, and met all the way back in sixth grade. Kate and Joey were in the same English class at South Charlotte Middle School and sat near each other.

Over the past four years, the couple has had their fair share of memorable moments and funny adventures. Joey remembers going on a hike and talking about everything going on in their lives, and then sitting up on top of the mountain together and looking at the view. Kate enjoyed watching the airplanes take off and land at Charlotte Douglas airport while listening to music and having a great time together.

The two also enjoyed ice skating together. Kate recalls how they laughed when Joey fell on his back in the middle of the rink. They remember all their adventures, but their favorite activity is getting ice cream and going to a movie in the theater.

The second couple, Natalie Dominguez and Jacob Segarra, have been dating for a year and a half—or as Jacob specifies: “578 days and counting.”

Throughout high school, Natalie and Jacob never had a single class together. Towards the end of their sophomore year, the two met between classes by chance—or so he thought. “I had a crush on him since freshman year and would try to time it in the hallways,” Natalie revealed.

Her efforts were successful. “I kept noticing her in the halls and couldn’t stop thinking about her,” Jacob says. “I ended up adding her on Snapchat first, and we went on our first date a few weeks later.”

He took her out to Carolina Ale House for their first date, a night the couple will never forget. Natalie and Jacob have countless great memories together, so many, in fact, they cannot choose a favorite. They enjoy trying new pizza places— commemorating the first time they went out together.

Varsity Softball and Baseball duo Ali Hoefling and Jack Hedrick have been together for two years. The pair had homeroom together during sophomore year and caught each other’s eye. Soon enough, they started talking and then officially dating. Ali and Jack both look back fondly on their hiking date on Crowders’ Mountain and the Riley Green and Luke Bryan concert they attended together this past summer. However, their relationship stretches beyond dates between the two of them. “We enjoy quality time with each others’ families, too,” Ali adds.

Unlike the other senior pairs, a couple that has not hit their one year anniversary still makes the list of the cutest couples in the class of 2024. Lauren Proicou and John Rhodes have been dating for eight months. They initially met in SAT prep junior year, but did not start talking until the fourth quarter in Mr. George’s English class. It all started when John asked Lauren to prom that May—they became an official couple soon after.

They do not have a favorite date. Lauren and John enjoy dinner paired with an activity, ranging from ice skating to pickleball, to mini golf. Also, the two often end up spending some quality time at home together competing against each other in board games. “I love going to school dances with John or to his golf tournaments,” Lauren says.

Valentine’s Day is the day to recognize all couples. Whether you are celebrating with your significant other, family, or friends, show some love today and spread the spirit of the day.
