Catholic’s Cookie: The Ooey-Gooey
From the crispy edge to the gooey interior, what’s not to love about CCHS’ Ooey-Gooey Cookies from the cafeteria? Packed with sugary, chocolatey goodness and baked with love, students rave about this treat. Even on school tours, someone is bound to mention this decadent dessert to any incoming freshman.
It is not just one or two people; the Catholic Cafeteria sells a whopping ten batches a day, equivalent to roughly 120 cookies. The secret, the cafeteria staff believes, is the way these treats are sold. Students can find these cookies freshly baked and served warm. One student adds, “The crunchy crust and the warm, soft center bring me joy after a bad math test.”
Marie Coghlan, a sophomore, is a loyal member of the Ooey-Gooey Fan Club. She guesses her weekly average is three a week, but at one point, it was close to five. She loves that this treat is shareable with friends and that it is so delicious. Marie’s advice for picking out the best one is looking for a big cookie with a crispier outside. According to Marie, the best time to grab one is at break.
Senior Madelyn Bronson loves Ooey-Gooeys because of their “mouthwatering taste.” Even when they have sprinkles inside, Madelyn cannot help but buy one. Her first year at Catholic she had one cookie a week with a friend. Since the addition of the brownie sundae bar, however, her attention has shifted to other treats. That is until one day when a tragedy turned into a great excitement. Madelyn was lucky enough to try the ice cream sundae bar with an Ooey-Gooey once they ran out of brownies. She comments, “This was far better than brownie and ice cream. The gooey-ness of the cookie and softness of ice cream was mind blowing.” She hopes the cafeteria can create a new menu item where they sell this dessert on special Thursdays throughout the year.
This signature sweet from the CCHS Cafeteria is a hit among students. Whether sharing it with a friend or eating it as a pick-me-up after a rough day, the Ooey-Gooey Cookie is almost the perfect snack. The only thing missing is a gluten-free version.
