As a new calendar year begins, the Charlotte Catholic High School community prepares to renovate the campus and upgrade key facilities for improving student life. Director of Advancement Ms. Sally McArdle and a group of administrators are beginning an ambitious new project called the Capital Campaign. MACS families have already donated $2 million, and the school hopes to raise another $8.5 million in order to renovate and construct four key areas of the school.

On January 28th, administrators of Charlotte Catholic held a meeting with boosters and donors to present this new campaign. The school plans to develop each of four different projects in two phases. The first phase will consist of turfing the field, renovating the Media Center, and constructing a Computer, Technology, and Engineering Innovation Center from a building recently acquired by the school.

The second phase will involve building a multi-functional field house above the concession stand in the Keffer Stadium. This construction will definitely take the most time to complete. The estimated cost of the first phase is around $6.8 million dollars, and the second phase costs around $3.7 million.

The first project is renovating the field from grass to artificial turf. This improved surface would allow the field to be used year-round, hold up under weather and heavy use, and save money by reducing  maintenance. Star Charlotte Catholic kicker Aidan Flynn believes that even though grass fields provide a better grip, turf will “be a great upgrade for the field and the teams that use it.”

Next, the school plans to renovate parts of the main floor and create a Student Life Center. The library will be transformed into the Media Center with advanced technology, new furniture, upgraded flooring, new lighting, and a new ceiling. The school also plans to create more classrooms, meeting rooms, renovate IT and support areas.

Perhaps the most interesting project is the brand new Computer, Technology, and Engineering Center. In the newly acquired building just east of the 500 building, the school wants to create two new classrooms and move all the Engineering and Technology classes so that students have access to  new, state-of-the-art technology. The plans allow for new outdoor and project work areas around the CTE building and more classrooms for other classes in the main building.

Finally, the school plans to create a field house above the concession stand at Keffer Stadium. During the school week, this space will encompass three classrooms separated by moveable walls. However, the main purpose of the field house is to complement the athletic program with recovery and  training areas. The field house will also provide space for key meetings and events.

While there is no definite timeline on all these projects and renovations, Charlotte Catholic’s aspirations are ambitious. The school is asking the entire community to support this campaign.
