Pope Leo XIV has requested Catholics to dedicate a daily Rosary for the cause of world peace during the month of October. Students and faculty at Charlotte Catholic will participate by praying one decade of the Rosary each morning during this month.

October is the Month of the Holy Rosary, and Pope Leo XIV wishes to spread a message of peace around the world. Despite international conflicts and recent tragic events, Catholics worldwide can appreciate the sense of community that the Rosary brings. The Vatican hopes that this month guides the faithful in a devotion to Christ.

“Pope Leo asked all Catholics to pray the Holy Rosary every day this month,” Father Chinoso said. “Our way of participating in school is through praying a decade of the Rosary together.” Catholics ask Mary, Our Lady of Victory, to mediate for others by praying the Rosary for them. Father Chinoso stated that the prayers we offer help those in the world in need. He said, “We ask Mary to pray for others or ourselves through the Rosary. The Pope would like to spread peace by asking us to do this.”

Some students at Charlotte Catholic appreciate the daily Rosary. Sophomore Dominic Thompson said, “I think it is a good opportunity to say a decade so we can follow the Pope’s request to pray a Rosary for peace around the world.” Adding to Dominic’s opinion, sophomore Liam Parker stated, “I think it is good to have an additional prayer in the morning for those who need it.” Many students approve of the intentions behind the prayer.

However, a few students find the additional prayer during home room taking more time than expected. Dominic added, “Along with others, I use time to study or complete my work during homeroom.” One student who wished to remain anonymous stated, “We always pray for others in our regular prayer, and the decade does take extra time.”

The majority of Catholic students understand the significance of the pope’s request and appreciate the importance of these additional prayers.

October is a time for Catholics worldwide to pray for goodwill and love. Though some feel ambivalent about an additional prayer for intercession, the majority of students at Charlotte Catholic respect the purpose behind the daily decades. Each day this month, Charlotte Catholic students and faculty join over one billion followers called to peace through praying a decade of the Rosary.
