Every year the students of Charlotte Catholic venture forth on a retreat with their respective grades. The retreat offers a way for students to take time away from their regular school environment, allowing them to bond and meet new people. This year the sophomores are going to Carowinds.
In recent years, junior and senior retreats were held at Crowders mountain and the freshman retreat at Camp Thunderbird in South Carolina.
Since last year's freshman class stayed at school for their retreat, Charlotte Catholic selected Carowinds for the sophomore retreat which will be an exciting time for students to unwind and hang out with friends.
When asked about her opinion on the retreat, Sophomore Elyse Dempsey said she “is excited to ride roller coasters with [her] friends and cannot wait!”
Next week, sophomores will be given a sheet of paper in homeroom to write down a few names of people they prefer in their group. The groups will be divided between six to eight people and the school will need numerous chaperones.
On April 11, students will arrive at school at the normal time, and after homeroom they will fill the buses and ride to the theme park. Once there, students will be organized into their groups and will be let into the park. Teams will compete in a scavenger hunt around the park and the winning team will receive a day off from school in the 2025-2026 school year.
Planning the event at Carowinds with the chance of winning a reward will create a fun and competitive environment made possible by team work. Riding roller coasters will give students the thrill of a near death experience and a chance to be spiritually closer to Heaven in height, making them closer to God.
