SOTM: Padraig's Pastries

From croissants to crepes, Charlotte Catholic’s favorite Frenchman is bringing a taste of France to our very own cafeteria next year. Junior Padriag McPhillips plans on taking a year off of school to work with cafeteria staff and sell his pastries from his bakery, Padraig’s Pastries, during break and all lunches.

Taking most, if not all, of his inspiration from his favorite French bakery, Le Petite Bâguette Oui Oui, Padraig plans to bring a taste of his old home to his new friends and school community. Padraig promises students that “flavors will burst in your mouth and soon you'll be itching for a pastry everyday.” Padraig plans on bringing six menu items: chocolate croissants, strawberry and nutella crepes, three flavors of macaroons, finger fruit tarts, and strawberry eclairs. Padriag is excited to showcase his cooking skills at Charlotte Catholic and hopes all students will enjoy it. Although he is “scared to show people [his] hidden talent, [he’s] excited for all to fawn over their deliciousness.”

Padraig has been serving the world with his delicious pastries since the age of five. Growing up in France, Padraig developed an intense love for baking. From starting with basic chocolate chip cookies to transforming to a professional baker who is well versed in the French culinary arts. He even spent time on MasterChef, working under Gordon Ranmsey, with a group of experienced younger peers. Although Padraig got eliminated after a few rounds, he claims he will “always take advantage of the experience to better his culinary skills.”

His passion developed from his older brother, who graduated last year. His brother, Domenico McPhilips, had an obsession with salted caramel macarons. Attempting to please his older brother, he learned to perfect the salted caramel macaron multiple times.

Normally, Padriag would graduate with the class of 2025. However, he will be taking a gap year to focus on his pastry shop. He will come to school at the normal time but instead of going to his homeroom or A period, he will be cheffing up his pastries. With the extra time post-school, he will be perfecting his recipes and hopes to open up his own bakery that continues. He will continue his Catholic school career after the gap year and graduate in 2026.

Padraig Pastries will go far with Padriag’s enthusiasm, dedication, and incredible-tasting bakery items. Look out for Padriag and his pastries coming next year at break and all lunches at CCHS.
