Seniors Bond Over Breakfasts

On  February 28, CCHS held its first senior breakfast, a new event in which the school provides the seniors with food before school starts.

Every Friday, seniors head to the cafeteria instead of homeroom when the first bell rings. They eat breakfast from 7:40-7:55. While the seniors nosh on bagels, donuts, or muffins, the underclassmen enjoy an extended homeroom. To compensate for the extra seven minutes of homeroom, classes are shortened by one minute.

For the inaugural senior breakfast, the school treated the seniors to an assortment of Krispy Kreme donuts, including flavors like glazed and chocolate iced with sprinkles. After checking in with the counselors for attendance, each student selected their favorite and enjoyed the company of friends.

On March 7, the second senior breakfast featured  muffins from the CCHS cafeteria. A few students expressed disappointment after having donuts the week prior. But they still had an opportunity to spend a little quality time with their pals.

Several of the seniors expressed excitement at the opportunity to bond with their classmates as the third quarter of their final year at Catholic comes to a close. Due to new homerooms with students from all grade levels, some seniors feel disconnected from their peers. The breakfast allows the seniors to spend more time together before they graduate.

Senior Kelly Tyson enjoys the sense of community created by the senior breakfast. She said, “It’s nice to hang out as a grade, and it’s a good way to start the morning.” She was upset about having underclassmen in her homeroom this year, but she feels like the introduction of the senior breakfast has made up for the loss of all-senior homerooms by helping the senior class build and strengthen relationships.

Similarly, senior Ashley Newell is excited to continue senior breakfasts and appreciates the school’s creativity. She said, “It’s important for all of us to spend our mornings together since we only have a little bit of time left with each other before we go our separate ways.” Ashley looks forward to seeing what breakfast items the school will come up with. She also hopes that the school will introduce more bonding activities for the seniors before graduation.

As their final year at CCHS wraps up, seniors appreciate the initiative the school is taking to make the end of their high school experience special.
