Cooking Creations with Celebrated Chef

With class registrations happening this week, students should consider enrolling in the exciting new Honors Cooking and Baking course. This class offers students the opportunity to learn more about a career in culinary arts. Students will gain hands-on experience with different cooking techniques while learning about different cultures and foods from around the world.

Charlotte Catholic is hiring Michelin-Starred chef Jacques de Moore to teach students the art of cooking and advanced culinary techniques. De Moore has over 30 years of experience in the culinary industry. His passion for cooking began at a young age. After graduating from Ferrandi Paris Culinary School in 1995, de Moore began his career at a small family-owned restaurant. In 2001, he became the head chef of the restaurant where he earned accolades for his signature dish, truffle ravioli. Shortly after that, he was appointed head chef at the prestigious Le Bernardin in New York, a 3 Michelin-starred restaurant, where he continued to impress even the pickiest critics.

Recently, de Moore made the difficult decision to step down from his role as head chef to share his love for cuisine with the next generation. He chose to join the faculty at CCHS in order “ to broaden [his] horizons and elevate [his] culinary skills” by teaching students the art of cooking. Although this is his first teaching experience, he is excited to introduce students to the joys and opportunities of the career he loves.

This summer, CCHS will renovate its cafeteria kitchen to create an additional learning space for the culinary course. The upgraded kitchen will allow students to engage in hands-on cooking and baking projects while on campus. In the new space, students will learn to prepare everything from simple entrees to gourmet meals and desserts. They will experiment with different ingredients to create unique flavors and delicious meals. Additionally, students will learn how to reduce waste by repurposing leftovers into nutritious, tasty dishes that will be donated to those in need.

The Honors Cooking and Baking course is an excellent opportunity for students to gain hands-on experience in culinary arts. Plus, it is graded on a 5-point scale, so it will help boost participants' grade point average without adding extra homework and stress. Students should consider enrolling in this exciting new class as it is sure to be a deliciously fun break from traditional classes.
